Synopsis for "The Menace of... Mysterio!"

Spider-Man is robbing a bank with a bag of cash and making a getaway. As the news picks up on this dramatic turn from good to evil, Peter worries he may be developing a split personality who could have robbed the bank without him realizing it as well as the rest of a series of crimes. As Spider-Man he tries to go to a psychiatrist to be examined, but realizes the danger of being unmasked if he stays too long. Mysterio arrives at The Daily Bugle and delivers a note to J. Jonah Jameson that if Spider-Man "wants to learn the truth about himself" that he meets Mysterio at the Brooklyn Bridge. Mysterio promises that he'll capture and take care of Spider-Man since he's now become public enemy number one. Both of them fight atop the bridge and Mysterio declares himself winner as Spider-Man dives below in a puff of smoke. As Peter Parker, he plants a Spider-Tracer on Mysterio and proceeds to fight him on his own terms as Spider-Man. Mysterio reveals in the fight of his origin as a special effects creator for TV and movies and how he's mimicked Spider-Man's powers in broad daylight for the public to believe Spider-Man is a common criminal. The issue ends with a full confession by Mysterio to the police clearing Spider-Man's name and once again making J. Jonah Jameson a laughingstock.
