Prior to What If Volume 2 105, Marko's life was the same as Cain Marko (Earth-616) up until the point in the Clone Saga during which Mary Jane Watson went into labor early.

Earth-982 history

The theory given to Marko's son Zane Yama (J2) is that while on a top-secret mission into space with the X-People, Marko was left behind for some reason. He was apparently sucked into a "strange, alien dimension."^[1]
