Meanwhile Loki, confined to Asgard, as found a human carnival magician (and petty criminal) called Sandu who he uses to create trouble for Thor. His limited ESP power increased by Loki, Sandu begins to commit larger and larger crimes until he levitates the entire UN building.

When Thor comes to the rescue, Sandu traps him in large metal chains and buries him under a building. Thor cries out to Odin, who sends two of the Valkyries to bring Thor his Belt of Strength. Using its additional power, Thor is able to break free.

Following a mental command from Loki, Sandu tricks Thor into throwing his hammer at an illusion of Sandu, separating it from Thor. But when Sandu tries to lift the hammer, he is unable. Straining his mental powers more and more in an effort to lift the hammer, Sandu finally causes his mind to short circuit, destroying his powers and undoing all the crimes he had committed.
