History
Itsu, while in the last stages of her pregnancy, is murdered by Winter Soldier in an attempt to draw Wolverine out and return him to custody in Madripoor. Emma Frost would eventually, many years later, encounter his shadowed visage in a precognative dream. She promptly informs Logan that his son, whom he believed died along with his expecting mother, lives. After Itsu's death, a mysterious man wearing a trenchcoat that conceals his identity, cuts the baby (Daken) from his mother's womb and leaves her body lying on the floor. Daken is, many years later, revealed to have survived the horrible incident due to inheriting his father's healing factor.
It is later discovered that Itsu's death and Daken being cut from her womb occurs sometime in the year 1946. The mysterious stranger leaves the child at the doorstep of Akihira and Natsumi, a wealthy young and traditional Japanese couple. They take his presence as an answer to their prayers and raise him as their own. Though he is named Akihiro by his father, the servants and other families of the province secretly refer to the boy as Daken, a slur on his obvious mixed heritage. As Akihiro grows, he is often teased by the other boys of the village. His harsh treatment over the years causes Akihiro to develop a very cold persona to all except his father. One night, Natsumi confesses to Akihira that she doesn't love their adopted son and that, after long years of trying, she's pregnant. Akihira overhears the talk and begins plotting. Within a year, after the birth of the baby, Akihira confronts his mother and tells her that she has killed her son. Akihiro is furious and disowns Akihira, who furiously responds that isn't his true name anyway. Natsumi suddenly appears and tries to run him through, triggering the onset of his mutant powers. He waves his arm, accidentally slashing Natsumi. Akihiro, unable to force himself to harm his son, commits suicide. Romulus then appears to the boy for the first time and tells him that he is what the boy will someday become. Daken's subsequent activities aren't known, other than he has undergone combat training from Cyber and, presumably, Romulus as well.
Daken's personal motives are unclear at this time. Disguised as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, he brutally stabs Dum Dum Dugan and confronts his incarcerated father for the first time, before slashing him across the stomach and leaving him to bleed on the floor, as his mother was left, many years before.[5] Daken is revealed to have "aided" his father's escape, though not for benevolent reasons.
He is next seen in Berlin at the home of a woman he has been cruelly toying with. He led her to believe that he was cheating on her with a man that he was actually just going to kill in order to steal a passport (there was no real affair). Knowing that she would drink an entire bottle of burgundy he secretly poisons it, resulting in her death. He had to end the relationship and her life so that no loose ends could be left to tie him to his crimes and he simply picked an unusually sadistic fashion to dispatch her.
While walking through the streets of Potsdam, Germany, Daken is then contacted by an anonymous messenger who reminds him of his displeased master's "ultimate goal". Daken then dispatches the messenger to yet again make sure to leave absolutely no trace of his presence. Later he appears on a train to Brussels, watching his father in a nearby stolen car. He then receives a phone call from an unknown "friend" (who is actually the recently resurrected Cyber), confirming his father's destination.
Shadowing his father into the bank vault in Brussels that contains the carbonadium synthesizer, Daken and Wolverine engage in a bloody battle, with Daken demonstrating great fighting prowess and similar speed and agility to his father. As Wolverine is hampered in the feud by his lack of desire to kill his son and his fading belief that Daken can be redeemed, he quickly loses the upper hand despite his greater experience and training. Their fight is interrupted when Cyber breaks into the vault and challenges Daken. It is then revealed that Daken trained under Cyber in the past. Cyber mentions that Daken is a better and faster fighter than he, and was his finest student. However, Cyber's imperviousness and greater superhuman strength make that a moot point (which he later clearly explains to Wolverine). Daken refuses to lead Cyber to his masters and flees the fight, leaving his father and his mentor to deal with each other.
Daken is then seen in the presence of Wild Child, and a scarred, expressionless torturer who whips him with a gasoline soaked length of rope. He pleads for mercy, but receives only a warning from his "master" to stay away from his father.
Daken has recently reappeared and confronted Deadpool and his father. He interrupts the two, arguing as Wolverine his restrained by ropes and chains while dangling above a pool of water. Daken extracts his claws and slices off Deadpool's left hand before Deadpool can pull the level to drop Wolverine into the pool, with the intention of drowning him. However, Daken immediately pulls the lever and drops Wolverine into the pool. Daken engages Deadpool and quickly gains the upper hand. During their fight, Daken kicks two grenades into the pool, which explode seconds later and the impace of the explosion tosses Wolverine out of the pool. Daken winds up slicing off both of Deadpool's hands as well as several deep slashes across Deadpool's chest and stomach, taking him out of the confrontation. Wolverine confronts Daken, only for Daken to be shot in the back of the head through a window sniper style by Bucky. Wolverine reveals that Daken has been shot with one of three bullets made of Carbonadium, which he had the Tinkerer construct for him with the Carbonadium Synthesizer to construct a pacemaker for Cyber. Wolverine gives the bullets to Bucky with the intention of using one to incapacitate Daken since Carbonadium dramatically decreases the speed of an accelerated healing factor. He reveals to Daken that he allowed Deadpool to capture him in the hopes of drawing him out. Wolverine then gently cradles Daken in his arms and carries him out of the warehouse, but not before speaking to Deadpool, who is conscious but unable to move since his body is healing from the beating Daken gave him. Wolverine tells Deadpool not to take it personally, though he warns Deadpool not to try to come after him again because he'll kill him if he does.
Powers and Abilities
Powers
Daken is a mutant possessing various superhuman attributes, some of which are very similar to those of his father.
Regenerative Healing Factor: Daken's primary mutant power is an accelerated healing factor that allows him to rapidly regenerate damaged or destroyed bodily tissues. The full extent of Daken's healing powers aren't known. For instance, it isn't known if he can regenerate a missing limb or an organ. It also isn't known of Daken's healing factor results in some of his physical attributes being heightened to superhuman levels as his father's does. Presumably, Daken's healing factor affords him great resistance, if not outright immunity, to diseases and causes him to age at a much slower pace than a normal human. Daken's healing factor does afford him great longevity, however, and has dramatically slowed his aging process. Though he was born sometime in 1946, he has the appearance and vitality of a man in the physical prime of his life.
Retractable Claws: Daken possesses retractable claws housed within his forearms. These claws are black in color and appear to be very rough in texture. Presumably, these claws are made of bone just as his Wolverine's naturally are. Daken has two claws which emerge from between the skin of his first and third knuckles while the center claws actually extend from the underside of his wrist. These claws are much harder and denser than normal human bone and their natural shape provides them with a razor sharp edge capable of easily slicing through flesh and bone.
Blindspot: During his fight with Deadpool, Daken explains that he doesn't have superhuman speed or any teleportation ability. He cryptically replies, "I have no superpowers. Or, at least none like you've described. As loathsome as it is to admit, I'm no faster than you are. I am simply always where my enemy isn't looking. It is a skill I learned from the master himself." Daken, presumably, acquired this ability from Romulus. It resembles superhuman speed or teleportaion in the sense that Daken is able to appear where his enemies can't see him, enabling him to inflict damage before his opponent truly realizes what's happening. The full nature of this ability is currently a mystery.
Scent Suppression: Daken has demonstrated the ability to mask his scent entirely. Whether this is part of his natural physiology or if it is achieved through artificial means is unknown.
Abilities
Daken has proven himself to be a superb hand to hand combatant. Cyber trained Daken at one time and acknowledges that Daken has superior skill. Daken has proven this skill by besting both Wolverine and Deadpool. A good deal of his success, however, can also be attributed to his unique and mysterious ability to appear directly opposite of where an opponent is looking, which gives Daken a tremendous advantage during one on one combat situations.
Strength level
Unknown.
Weaknesses
Daken's healing factor can be dramatically slowed if Carbonadium is implanted inside of him, such as swallowing something made of Carbonadium or being wounded by a bullet composed of it. It causes his healing factor to be reduced to a slow crawl, at least in comparisson to its normal speed, but doesn't fully suppress it.
Paraphernalia
Equipment: None known.
Transportation: None known.
Weapons: None known.
Notes
Though Daken has demonstrated some mutant powers similar to Wolverine's, such as his retractable claws and mutant healing factor, it isn't known if his genetic mutation is exactly like that of Wolverine's. For instance, Daken has demonstrated no superhuman physical or sensory capabilities.
