History

The Infinity Guantlet was designed to hold six of the 'soul gems', better known as the Infinity Gems. When used in combination their already impressive powers made the wearer nearly invincible. It was gathered by the mad Titan Thanos as he took the gems from the Elders of the Universe that had originally carried them. Adam Warlock later held the guantlet, but the Living Tribunal declared that the gems were too dangerous to use together.

Capabilities

  • Time Gem--Total control over all aspects of time including time travel; stop, slow down, or speed up flow of time; accelerate or slow down aging, see into past/future.
  • Space Gem--Travel through space, mostly through teleportation. Able to interfere with the motion of other objects.
  • Soul Gem--Observe,attack, or even steal a being's soul. Also used to devolve artificial organisms back into a primitive state.
  • Reality Gem--Alters reality; similar to the effects of a Cosmic Cube
  • Power Gem--Virtually limitless strength, durability, and energy manipulation
  • Mind Gem--Virtually limitless psionic abilities including telepathy and telekinesis.

The Infinity Gauntlet granted virtual omnipotence to it's wearer. Even the combined powers of beings like Eternity, Uatu, Lord Chaos, Master Order, Mistress Love and Sire Hate in the Marvel Universe, Kronos the Celestials, Death, and Galactus made up only a small fraction of the Gauntlet's power. The only known being with power exceeding that of the Gauntlet is the Living Tribunal.
