Synopsis for "The Verdict of Zeus!"

Thor arrives in New York and is mobbed by his fans. A sympathetic cabbie takes him to Jane Foster's building and gets stiffed.

Pluto presents his pact with Hercules to Zeus (see previous issue). Hercules himself climbs Mount Olympus to protest; he must defeat a yellow-crested titan ("the fiercest and most powerful of all the savage breed") at the summit. Once Herc reaches the throne, Zeus suggests that this dilemma will teach him humility and forbids him to fight in his own defense. However, Zeus will void the contract if he can find a champion to settle his grievance by combat.

Thor returns to Asgard. Odin reminds him that it is the Day of Three Worlds, as written in the Book of Enchanters. Thor must go to Limbo, answer three calls for help, and "stake all--on behalf of another." He passes through the Doorway to All the Worlds and waits for his first call.

Hercules scours Olympus for a champion. Ares refuses. Hermes pretends not to hear him. Time runs out. Pluto and his legions appear, ready to escort Hercules to Hades. As Pluto's demons drag him through a portal, Hercules cries out for help from someone, anyone ... and Thor hears him ....
